Fairtrade Fortnight 2010

In Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 Hartlepool Fairtrade School’s Group organised a Fairtrade Fashion show held at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College. The night was a huge success with more than 250 in attendance.

The evening started with the primary school design a Fairtrade bag competition. Each school was asked to submit a design, which was then printed on to Fairtrade cotton bags by Catcote School. The designer then displayed their bag on the catwalk and an overall winner and runner up were chosen.

We then had three fashion runs featuring Fairtrade clothing from Bishopton Trading, Epona and Natural Collection among others.

The secondary school students then showed off their handy work. The secondary schools had been asked to design and produce a Fairtrade dress from 25 Fairtrade cotton bags. The design brief asked the students to think about the Fairtrade message. Each of the five secondary schools who took part produced dresses of an amazing standard; the winning school was then awarded a £30 Ethical Superstore voucher.

The designer dress made almost entirely from Fairtrade cotton bags.
